GENEVA, Nov 24 (KUNA) -- Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) William Lacy Swing has highly appreciated Kuwait's keenness on honoring its pledges for financially supporting the Syrian refugees who were hard hit by the crisis at home.
The State of Kuwait offers a model example to be followed by other donors to alleviate the implications of the Syrian crisis on civilians, Swing told KUNA after receiving Kuwait's Permanent Delegate at the UN and International Organizations in Geneva Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghuneim.
The Kuwaiti diplomat handed the IOM chief a donation for the humanitarian situation in Syria.
The Kuwaiti funding contributes to completing various programs for the good of the Syrian refugees, including providing safe and proper living conditions, food, medical treatment and drinking water, Swing added.
He noted that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was among the first to place the refugees and homeless, victims of the Syrian crisis, before the international public opinion.
He referred to His Highness the Amir's initiatives for organizing donors' conferences for urgent and rapid response to the crisis, which positively lessened suffering.
For his part, Al-Ghuneim referred to the relations between Kuwait and the IOM as "close, built on mutual confidence" saying that the organization "offers major service programs, with full transparency , and honors its pledges to alleviate the suffering of the refugees and the displaced around the globe." Kuwait's donation submitted to Swing today is part of the country's pledge during the fourth conference for Syrian donors. (end) ta.msa
