US, EU ministers meet in Washington on security threats

WASHINGTON, Nov 17 (KUNA) -- The US-EU Ministerial Meeting on Justice and Home Affairs reaffirmed the long-standing partnership in combating terrorism and security threats on Friday.
The discussions focused on the operational cooperation and effective information sharing to combat terrorism and the trafficking of cocaine and illicit opioids.
Both sides reviewed the joint efforts aimed at cracking down on terrorism financing and money laundering, and countering the threat of cyberterrorism, according to a statement by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
They highlighted the importance of collecting, using and sharing airline passenger information to improve aviation security.
They noted the progress in cooperative discussions towards reciprocal and secure visa-free travel under their respective legal frameworks.
The US-EU Ministerial Meeting will reconvene in the first half of 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria, the statement added. (end) hy.gb
