Syrian activists say 50 civilians killed in gov't shelling in Boukamal

AMMAN, Nov 12 (KUNA) -- Around 50 people have been killed in the eastern Syrian city of Boukamal near the border with Iraq in an ongoing offensive by Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed Iraqi militias, a Syrian human rights body reported on Sunday. The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that heavy aerial bombardments continue to target the Syrian city of Boukamal on the Euphrates River, resulting in the deaths of 50 civilians in the last 36 hours, including 20 children.
Meanwhile, SOHR also reported that Syrian government forces now hold full control over the city of Boukamal, as the so-called Islamic State (IS) has evacuated its last urban stronghold in Syria. (end) tk.nam
