Tunisia's state of emergency extended for three months

TUNIS, Nov 10 (KUNA) -- Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Friday decided to extend the state of emergency in the country by three months as of November 12.
The decision was made during a National Security Council meeting, chaired by President Essebsi, at Carthage Palace, according to a presidential statement carried by Tunisia's TAP news agency.
The state of emergency, first adopted in November 2015 following a terrorist attack on presidential guard, was extended several times since then.
The meeting of the National Security Council was an opportunity to assess the security situation at the local, regional and international levels, the statement said.
It also reviewed the progress in the implementation of several vital economic enterprises listed as protected production sites.
The meeting adopted the draft national strategy for securing borders, the statement added.
Tunisia was hit by three major terrorist attacks that claimed 59 lives in 2015, including a suicide attack on a bust of the presidential guards that killed 12 security personnel and injured 17 others on November 25. (end) ksj.gb
