JEDDAH, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- All routes to Yemen have been temporarily shut to re-examine inspection measures and "stop trafficking of Iranian arms to the Houthi militias via the border exits,: the command of the Saudi-led coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen announced early on Monday.
The ground, air and sea exits are closed pending review of the current inspection procedures to stop "smuggling missiles and other military ordnance from Iran to the Houthi militias," the command said in a statement.
It indicated that the new precautions were enforced against backdrop of the latest attack by the Houthi militia who targeted the Saudi capital with a 900-km-long Ballistic missile.
"Experts who examined debris of "several Iranian-supplied missiles," fired by the Houthis on the Kingdom recently, determined that the "Iranian regime manufactured these rockets and smuggled them to the Houthi militias with aim of attacking the Kingdom, its people and vital interests," the command statement added.
"The Coalition Command considers engagement of the Iranian regime in supplying the Houthi militias with these missiles a flagrant violation of Security Council resolutions that prevent states from arming militias," it said, alluding to resolution 2216.
It affirmed the Kingdom legitimate right to defend its territories and people according to Article 51 of the UN Charter, with reserving the right to retaliate for Iran at the adequate time and way as stipulated by the international laws and in harmony with its right to defend its lands, people and interests.
The Coalition has decided to impose temporary closure of the Yemeni air, ground and sea exits, but would allow entry of relief and humanitarian air according to the Coalition measures, the statement continued.
It called on all concerned parties to abide by the inspection measures upon entry and exit of the Yemeni territories, urged medical teams and civilians to stay away from zones of military action, gatherings of the militias.
The command urged the international community, the UNSG and its affiliate penalties commission to bring Iran into account for breaching UNGC resolutions namely resolution 2216. (end) nh.rk
