NEW DELHI, Oct 26 (KUNA) -- Indian police sources said Thursday that at least three Maoists were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Rajnandgaon district of central India's Chhattisgarh state.
An intense encounter erupted between the Maoists and Indian security forces as the latter launched an anti-insurgency operation in the Kopenkadka village of Rajnandgaon district in the Maoist-hit Chhattisgarh state, Indio Asian News Agency said quoting local police sources.
A joint team of the Indo Tibetan Border Police and local police personnel forces launched the operation Wednesday night deep inside the region.
Three automatic weapons were recovered from the spot and the forces intensified their combing operation.
Maoist rebels are active in various Indian states including Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar and Maharashtra.
The banned group is waging an armed struggle for decades against the government and its developmental projects in order to establish a communist society toppling the current system which they call as semi-feudal and semi-colonial. (end) atk.mb
