Libyan wins award of Quran contest in Berlin

BERLIN, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Osama Abdulaziz, of Libya, has won the top award of the grand contest for learners of the Holy Quran.
His compatriot Mohammad Fadhil came second while Omar Al-Mukhtar, of Norway, came third, said Al-Furqan association for learning the Holy Quran - the organizer of the contest, Sunday.
In the Quran reciting contest, the Moroccan Ibrahim Bu-Ghaleb won the top award and Sana Al-Rifa'ie and Sana Bisiso came in the second and third places respectively.
Dr. Khaled Al-Mathkour, representative of the Kuwait-based Al-Manabr Al-Quraniya Society, said his society and Al-Furqan association signed an agreement on cooperation to encourage the youth members of the Muslim community in Europe to learn the Holy Quran by heart In statements to KUNA, he voiced joy for taking part in the event and contributing to the promotion of knowledge about the Holy Quran in Europe.
The two-day contest gathered 723 eminent learners and reciters of the Holy Quran from 14 European countries, Ghamdan Al-Z'ietry, director of the Tunis-based Al-Furqan association, told KUNA tonight.
Al-Z'ietry noted that this was the second version of the contest which is the largest of its kind in Europe. Meanwhile, head of the organizing committee Talal Al-Hadi thanked the German government and the local authorities in Berlin for their efforts to facilitate the organization of the event.
He called on the Muslims community in Germany to integrate into the German society and abide by the tolerant values of noble Islam. (end) anj.gb
