AMMAN, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Jordanian King Abdullah II said Sunday it is of crucial importance to build a stable, secure and united Iraq that constitutes the cornerstone of stability and security in the Middle East region.
Jordan is ready to support the Iraqi government in its efforts to realize the aspirations of the people for prosperity and stability, he said during his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi.
The two sides discussed the latest developments in the region and the efforts of Iraqi government to maintain the unity of the country as per the provisions of the constitution.
They also discussed the bilateral ties and the political, economic and security cooperation, Jordan's Petra news agency reported. Al-Abadi, who paid a flash visit to Jordan tonight, briefed King Abdullah on the gains recently secured by the Iraqi forces in the war against "the terrorist gangs" and Iraq's vision for the future of the region, according to the report.
He also met with Jordanian Prime Minister Hani Al Mulki who reiterated support to Iraq in the fight against the so-called Islamic State and congratulated the Iraqi government on the recent victories.
The two premiers stated their desire to strengthen the historical strategic relations between their two countries and open new horizons for cooperation in economic, commercial and investment fields. (end) ab.mjb.gb
