DOHA, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Sunday Washington has no intention to imposing a solution to the Gulf crisis, but "we believe it is time to solve this crisis." The US will continue backing Kuwait's mediation to solve the crisis between Qatar on one side, and Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt on the other, Tillerson told a joint news conference with Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Thani.
He called for scaling down the rhetoric between the two sides, and that the GCC should be united.
Tillerson, who came from Saudi Arabia, said the US was feeling the ramification of the Gulf crisis.
He said there was no sign that any party to the crisis wanted to engage in dialogue. Tillerson added that he asked the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, when he met him earlier today, to start this dialogue. He did not elaborate.
He added that the US and Qatar would work closely on countering terrorism.

Sheikh Mohammad said Qatar believed that any summit meeting of the GCC "is a good opportunity for dialogue." He said Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani shared US President Donald Trump's view that the Gulf crisis has taken too much time without any solution.
Sheikh Mohammad, who commended His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's mediation efforts, reiterated that Qatar was committed to dialogue.
He reiterated importance of the GCC as an organization.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Tamim met with Tillerson and discussed the Gulf crisis.
Qatari news agency reported that the two men discussed international support of Kuwait's mediation to solve the crisis via dialogue. (end) nnd.bs
