Indian forces gun down two militants in Kashmir

NEW DELHI, Oct 22 (KUNA) -- Indian Army said on Sunday that a militant was neutralized in an encounter with the security forces in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Quoting Indian defence spokesman Rajesh Kalia, the Indo Asian News Agency said that a militant was killed in a gunfight as part of anti-militancy operation at Langate Handwara, situated around 70 km from state capital Srinagar.
A joint team comprising members of the Army, local police and Central Reserve Police Force started the operation after receiving intelligence inputs about movements of the militants in the region.
In another incident, a militant was killed in an operation in Ananwan Hajin in the Handwara of North Kashmir. The operation is still on.
Meanwhile, five masked militants vandalized house of a police of officer in Batagund village of Tral area in Pulwama district.
New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims which Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (end) atk.tg
