KUWAIT, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim described on Thursday His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's cable to him over his latest pro-Palestinian stance "a non-controversial political statement." Al-Ghanim, reacting to His Highness the Amir's cable of congratulations for confronting the Israeli delegation at the Inter-Parliamentary Union conference in Saint Petersburg, Russia, said he was greatly elated with the Amir's cable but felt unable to describe how deeply it affected him and millions of people who advocate human rights.
The speaker added that he tended not to interpret the sagacious Amir's cable as a letter of support for himself in person, but an emphatic Kuwaiti political statement from a leader who has supported rights of the Palestinians, the Arabs and Muslims and other oppressed nations throughout his life.
He expressed deep gratitude to His Highness the Amir for his support and wished him a long life so he may witness the Palestinians attaining their rights, freedom and dignity.
His Highness the Amir, in the cable he addressed to the Speaker earlier today, praised him for his pro-Palestinian stance at the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, held in Saint Petersburg.
In a cable, His Highness the Amir emphasized Al-Ghanim's firm remarks against the Israeli Knesset delegation at the concluding session of the Assembly, demanding them to leave the meeting room, against the backdrop of the plight of Palestinian prisoners. (end) abd.rk
