RAMALLAH, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday affirmed that national reconciliation is a top priority for Palestine's unity so as to meet aspirations and hopes of the Palestinian people.
The dissolution of the administrative committee previously formed by Hamas movement and agreement on holding elections are the right track for the national unity, Abbas was quoted by Palestine's news agency (Wafa) as saying.
He made the statement during a meeting of Fatah Revolutionary Council late Thursday in Ramallah.
Since the Palestinian split, several efforts were made by Palestinians, in collaboration with the Arab League and Egyptians, to end this split peacefully, he said.
He added that there is an important meeting in Cairo between Fatah and Hamas movements to lay the foundations and go into the specific details for the government takeover of power and the next steps.
"This requires effort, hard work and good intentions, and we hope that everyone will have these intentions," he noted. (end) nq.hm
