DUBAI, Oct 5 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's university students and researchers have been awarded five of the nine prizes of the 5th Arab Robotics Conference held in Dubai.
Patronized by Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the conference concluded three-day activities on Thursday.
Kuwaiti student Fahd Al-Fahd won first place in the scientific papers category reviewing some of the challenges on developing aerial robotics for land reclamation. Zeinab Al-Baqsami won second prize in the same category for her paper on depicting bacteria in laboratories.
Leila Bu Abbas's design won the best educational technological poster ranked first, as Batul Dashti came third.
Deputy Chairman of the Arab Robotics Association Abdullah Mohammad Al Mutawa, a professor at the computer department at the Kuwait University, was second in the "distinguished models of scientific papers" category.
Talking to KUNA after the awards ceremony, Al Mutawa said that most of the winners of the best scientific papers went to the Kuwait University's computer department.
He commended the effective presence of the Kuwaiti researchers and academics and their papers have contributed to the success of the workshops at the conference. He thanked the University and the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Science (KFAS) for their support to the delegation.
For her part, Deputy Chairman of the Kuwait Information Technology Society and professor at the College of Basic Education voiced pleasure for the wins of the Kuwaiti team.
More than 550 researchers and academics took part in the 5th Arab Robotics Conference that sought to exchange Arab and international experience in areas of robotics and artificial intelligence, exploring the possibility of implementing joint projects and encouraging pan-Arab initiatives in this field.
