Firing on Pak-Indian border leave deaths and injures

ISLAMABAD, Sep 22 (KUNA) -- Six Pakistanis were killed and more than 26 others were injured in cross border shooting with Indian forces, said Pakistan military's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement Friday.
The firing, which started on Thursday evening in Pakistan's chapper, Harpel, and charwah sectors, left six Pakistani civilians dead and many injuries including women and children, the statement added.
Pakistani military officials contacted Indian counterpart in response to the violence witnessed on the working boundary (the de fecto border between Pakistan and India) in Kashmir's province.
Director General of military operations (DGMO) from the two countries discussed necessary measured need to stop firing and avoid similar situation in the future.
On his side, Pakistan is Acting Foreign Secretary Aitzaz Ahmed briefed the Indian High Commissioner about the situation on borderline and strongly condemned Indian forces violation to the ceasefire agreement which was signed back in 2003.
The foreign office issued a protest over the incident in which it stated that targeting of civilians is against international law and called for an immediate halt in cross-border firing. (end) sbk.nhq
