ROME, Sept 22 (KUNA) -- Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) and the Italian news agency (ANSA) inked on Friday a joint declaration for cooperation in the news-making sector.
The declaration calls for continuing coordination between European and Arab news agencies to promote democratic values, human rights, social, economic and cultural development.
It was signed by FANA President and General Director of the Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah and ANSA's Director General Giuseppe Cerbone at conclusion of a two-day Arab-European media forum, hosted by ANSA (Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata).
Conferees agreed on forming a panel, grouping a number of European and Arab news agencies, for swapping ideas and information, according to the Rome Declaration, which also called for holding seminars to discuss the news agencies' role in confronting terrorism thoughts.
The declaration has noted that terrorist organizations have successfully used digital media to spread fear and influence individuals and communities.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Mubarak Duaij expressed gratitude to Cerbone for holding this crucial forum that laid a new corner stone for establishing responsible media cooperation in the face of challenges and bridging the gap among nations.
For his part, Cerbone expressed keenness on boosting cooperation with the Kuwaiti news agency. (end) mn.rk
