Arab parliament calls for Kurdistan to postpone referendum on independence

CAIRO, Sept 21 (KUNA) -- President of Arab Parliament Meshaal bin Fahad Al-Salmi called on Kurdish authorities to stop its referendum of independence from Iraq and get back to negotiations with Baghdad's government.
Al-Salmi sent a cable Thursday to Kurdish President Masoud Barzani hoping that Kurds would postpone their vote, which is expected to raise tension especially with the current situations in and outside Iraq.
He called on the Kurds to get back to the dialogue table with the central Iraqi government and try to find suitable solutions for both sides.
He reaffirmed that Arab parliament is keen to guarantee rights of the Kurdish citizens as well as of the Iraqi.
Al-Salmi expressed his gratitude to President Barzani's great efforts in defeating IS and helping Iraqi families being displaced from their homes during IS occupation of their homes. (end) mfm.hdr.nhq
