Egyptian Pres. appeals for seizing of peace opportunity

NEW YORK, Sept 19 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi made an appeal to the Palestinians, Americans and Israelis on Tuesday that here was a chance to achieve peace in the Middle East.
"It is time to solve the Palestinian cause," Al-Sisi said in his address to the UN General Assembly's 72 session in New York.
"A just settlement to establish the independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital was the only solution," he said.
He said the "hands of the Arab people are extended to peace." The Arab countries offered a peace initiative in 2002, which calls for the liberation of all lands occupied by Israel in return of the normalization of relations.
Al-Sisi urged the Palestinians to unite and accept "co-existence with Israel." The Egyptian President, who also called on the Israeli people to seize the peace opportunity, extended a message to US President Donald Trump: "we have a chance to achieve peace." Peace, he added, would be a blow to terrorism.
Al-Sisi, meanwhile, said Egypt would not allow the undermining of the security and stability of Libya, or that the country turned to a safe haven for terrorists.
He said the resolution of the Libyan conflict should be based on the agreement struck in Sukhirat, Morocco.
On Syria, he said the Syrian people should preserve their state, protect the institutions and eradicate terrorism.
The solution of the Syrian crisis, which broke out in March 2011, should be through the UN-sponsored negotiations.
The conflict in Syria killed more than 300,000 people and injured many more, as well as forcing over 11 million people to flee their homes. (end) bs.asf
