Palestinian factions welcome dissolution of Hamas cmte in Gaza

Gaza, Sept 17 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian national and Islamic groups welcomed the decision announced by Hamas earlier Sunday to dissolve its self-proclaimed administrative committee in the Gaza Strip.
The move, together with the decision to enable the national accord government take charge of the affairs of the Strip, are in keeping with the repeated calls of the Palestinian groups to promote national reconciliation, said Talal Abu-Tharifa, member of the politburo of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP).
These helpful steps must be met with similar moves from Fatah group and the Palestinian leadership in the West Bank city of Ramallah, he said in a press release.
Abu-Tharifa voiced hope that Hamas decisions will pave the way for a comprehensive national dialogue and the implementation of the accords struck by Hamas and Fatah in May 2011 and January 2017.
On a similar note, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) welcomed the move as conducive to empowering the national accord committee to hold elections in Gaza.
In a statement released tonight, the PFLP expressed hope that Egypt will continue its mediation efforts to end the political divide in Palestine.
It called on Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to scrap all measures against the residents of Gaza and implement the agreements previously reached with Hamas in order to foil the plots of the Zionist entity against the Palestinian people.
The popular resistance movement also appreciated the Egyptian mediation and called on President Mahmoud Abbas to take steps towards restoring the national unity. (pickup previous) wab.gb
