Saudi Arabia, Jordan condemn IS attacks in Nasiriyah

KUWAIT, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia and Jordan strongly denounced the twin attacks on a restaurant and a security checkpoint in Nasiriyah city, Dhi Qar Governorate, south Iraq, on Thursday.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reaffirms its stance against all forms terrorism and extremism, and renews support to and solidarity with Iraq at this hard time, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted a senior Saudi diplomat as saying.
The source expressed condolences with the victims of the attacks as well as the people and government of Iraq.
Meanwhile, Jordanian Minister of State for Media Affairs and Government Spokesman Mohammad Al-Momani condemned as cowardly the terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of dozens of innocent victims.
He voiced Jordan's solidarity with Iraq in addressing terrorism in all of its forms and manifestations, according to Petra news agency.
He reiterated Jordan's firm stance against the inhuman crimes committed by terrorists and the need for concerted international and regional efforts to combat terrorism in all its forms.
Al Momani expressed confidence in Iraq's capabilities, whose armed forces set an example in defeating terrorism, by defeating the so-called Islamic State (IS) and liberating Iraq from its evil.
The minister expressed the government's sincere condolences to the Iraqi people, the Iraqi government and the families of the victims, and wished for the injured speedy recovery.
Earlier today, Iraqi authorities said the attacks, carried out by the IS, claimed more than 50 lives and injured 87 others; the IS claimed responsibility for the attacks in the city located some 400 km. to the south of Baghdad. (end) ahh.gb
