CAIRO, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- A Kuwaiti official said on Thursday that a prestigious volunteerism award bestowed upon him was a token of appreciation for Kuwait's altruistic and humanitarian endeavors.
Chairman of Kuwait's International Islamic Charitable Organization Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq's remarks came as he spoke to KUNA on the sidelines of an annual Arab League ceremony, where he was feted and awarded a prize recognizing prominent volunteers.
Al-Matouq, who is also the UN Secretary General's humanitarian envoy for Kuwait, said that the award honors notable Arab volunteers while extoling the merits of such virtues.
On the award, he pointed out that it also gives youth the opportunity to contribute productively to their communities, while simultaneously allowing regional charities and humanitarian organizations to compete amongst each other. Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti official added that the international community should shoulder the responsibility to address the plight of refugees and displaced people in the region, naming Syria and Iraq as examples.
Al-Matouq noted that Kuwaiti charities have collectively launched campaigns to raise donations for those victimized by conflict. (Pick up previous) ms.nam
