Arab FMs renew support to Yemen's legitimate gov't

CAIRO, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- The 148th session of the Arab League Council reaffirmed support to the legitimate government of Yemen, led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, in its effort to stabilize the country.
The meeting, held on the foreign-minister level on Tuesday, agreed a resolution highlighting the need of concerted efforts to maintain the unity, sovereignty and independence of Yemen and help the Yemeni government to restore security and stability in keeping with the relevant resolutions of the Arab League summits and the UN Security Council.
The ministers commended the Yemeni government's approach to tackling the political crisis in the country based on the three points of reference of the GCC initiative, the outcome of the national dialogue and the UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
They called on the international community, notably the G-18 sponsoring the political process in the country, to apply more pressures on the Houthi forces and force them to respond positively to the mediation efforts led by the UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmad.
The group is made up of the six members of the GCC, the five permanent members of UNSC, Germany, Netherlands, Turkey, Japan and Egypt, as well as the GCC and the EU missions.
The conferees appreciated the Yemeni government's cooperation with Cheikh Ahmad and its positive response to his suggestions regarding how to stop the arms smuggling into Yemen through Al-Hoddeidah seaport and facilitate the delivery of aid to the citizens.
On terrorism, the ministers commended the efforts of the legitimate authorities in Yemen, noting that the coup provided an environment conducive to the emergency of radical terrorist groups and the end of the coup will help eradicate such groups.
The Arab foreign ministers denounced the human rights abuses committed by the coup forces, including the killings, kidnappings, forced disappearances, evictions of citizens from their homes, use of hospitals and schools for military purposes, and child recruitment.
They also condemned the coup militias for their continued besiege of Taizz city over the last three years, the indiscriminate shelling of residential areas that result in civilian deaths, and systematic seizure of humanitarian aid.
These malpractices led to sharp shortage of food and medical supplies and outbreak of communicable diseases, the ministers added. (end) mfm.esm.gb
