WASHINGTON, Sept 7 (KUNA) -- Kuwait has made an order for a "sophisticated" US-made customs security metal detectors intended to be installed at its new airport, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) chief said on Thursday.
The deal was struck during talks between DGCA President Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Hamoud Al-Sabah and US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials.
Kuwait will host several visiting US delegations specialised in aviation security in order to benefit from technology capabilities, equipment and expertise the US possesses, Sheikh Salman told KUNA and KTV.
Discussions focused on issues of mutual importance and boosting cooperation in the field of aviation security, which hold vital importance, in the midst of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's visit to the US, he added.
Increasing cooperation on this field would contribute towards increasing direct air traffic, supporting joint trade and facilitating procedures for Kuwaiti businessmen and nationals wishing to travel to the US, he highlighted.
Kuwait's new USD 1.3 billion airport, which has been under construction since May 2016, will be able to accommodate 25 million travellers a year when completed. (end) asf.si.sd
