Turkey arrests 42 illegal immigrants en route to Greece

ANKARA, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Turkey has detained 42 illegal immigrants, including women and children, who attempted to cross the country's western border into Greece, security sources said Monday.
Coastal guards in the border town of Canakkale arrested the immigrants, who were intending to travel to Greece illegally, state-run Anadolu News Agency quoted the sources as saying.
Meanwhile, the immigrants, identified as Syrian and Iraqi nationals, have been referred to an immigration control center in the town, the sources noted.
Turkey is a crossing point for illegal immigrants to move into Europe via Greek islands off Turkish coasts. (end) rs.nam
