Japan, US FMs confirm cooperation over N. Korean nuke test

TOKYO, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono and U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday confirmed close cooperation between their countries to put maximum pressure on North Korea following its nuclear test on the previous day.
During a 20-minute telephone conversation, Kono and Tillerson shared the view the North's sixth nuclear test poses a grave and imminent threat to the security of the region and the international community, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The two agreed to work closely, including for a new, more powerful sanctions resolution at the UN Security Council, according to the ministry.
Kono and Tillerson also affirmed the importance of the roles played by China and Russia in the issues, it added.
North Korea announced on Sunday it has successfully conducted a test of a hydrogen bomb that can be loaded into a new intercontinental ballistic missile. It was the fourth nuclear test by Pyongyang, with the last in September last year, in defiance of UN Security Council resolutions. (end) mk.tg
