Pakistan wants trust from US

ISLAMABAD, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Pakistan indicated to the United States of America on Wednesday that it aspiring to see confidence from Washington rather than material aid, reacting to remarks by President Doland Trump accusing Islamabad of providing illicit facilities and help to "terrorists." "We are not looking for any material or financial assistance from USA but trust, understanding and acknowledgement of our contributions," Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa told US Ambassador David Hale on Wednesday.
According to Pakistan military's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Hale called on COAS at General Headquarters in eastern Rawalpindi city to brief him on the new US policy on Afghanistan and South Asia. Gen Bajwa said Pakistan had done a lot towards the end of terrorism, and shall continue doping that "not to appease anyone but in line with our national interest and national policy." He said collaboration and synergy of effort between all stakeholders was the key to bring the long drawn war in Afghanistan to its logical conclusion.
"The ambassador said that the US valued Pakistan's role in the war against terror and is seeking cooperation from Pakistan to resolve the Afghan issue," said ISPR. A day earlier, the ambassador had similarly briefed Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif on Washington's new policy and statements made by Trump regarding Pakistan. (end) sbk.rk
