Egypt regrets US trimming of annual aid

CAIRO, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Egypt on Wednesday regretted a US resolution to lower allotted funds part of annual American aid for the nation in 2017.
Such a measure may lead to negative repercussions, affecting the two countries' common interests, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry said in the official statement that Washington's decision, with respect of economic dimensions, or regarding delay of providing military aid, was result of misjudgment of the strategic relationship between the two nations.
This decision reflects an approach that fails to understand accurately necessity of backing stability in Egypt and size of the economic and security challenges it faces, the ministry added.
It urged Washington to consider significance of the aid for the country.
Washington reportedly provides USD one billion worth of assistance for Egypt per year. (end) hdr.rk
