GCC, UN sign four-point cooperation deal on environment

RIYADH, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- The GCC and the the United Nations Environment Programme signed a cooperation agreement for four environmental conservation projects on Tuesday.
The deal, signed by GCC Secretary General Abdullatif Al-Zayani and UNEP Executive Director Erik Solheim, is in line with GCC ministerial decisions and UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030, read a GCC Secretariat statement.
The deal calls to implement "important environmental projects" across GCC countries, in cooperation with the UN agency, aimed at the conservation of natural resources in order to achieve sustainable development.
It includes the study of the impacts of land fills on the marine environment, the development of data for air quality, the updating of sound management of chemicals guidelines and the preparation of a report on the state of the environment in the GCC. (end) mdm.sd
