Ethiopia unveils plans to rely on Sudanese ports for imports

KHARTOUM, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- Ethiopian Prime Minister Haile Desalgen announced Friday his country's desire to use Sudanese ports for receiving imports from around the globe.
The Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) quoted Desalgen as saying that the use of the Port of Djibouti has become more expensive so his government seeks to make use of the Sudanese ports, particularly the Port of Sudan, for handling up to 50 percent of Ethiopian imports.
Desalgen's announcement came a day after his three-day visit to Sudan where he discussed with Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir and other officials buttressing bilateral relations and cooperation on various domains.
They also mulled transport cooperation, especially the use of the Sudanese port to receive Ethiopian imports and facilitating movement between the two countries. (end) mmm.ibi
