US designates two IS leaders as global terrorists

WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- The US has labeled a pair of leaders of the so-called Islamic State, Ahmad Alkhald and Abu Yahya Al Iraqi, as global terrorists for their plans to carry out terrorist attacks.
Alkhald is an IS bomb-maker blamed for several attacks in Europe and is the "explosives chief" of the cell that carried out the November 2015 attacks in Paris as well as the March 2016 attacks in Brussels, according to a release from the State Department.
Meanwhile, Al Iraqi, also known as Iyad Hamed Mahl Al Jumaily, is a senior IS operative who reports to leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi.
He reportedly played a "key role" in security for Al Baghdadi and oversees IS security operations in Iraq and Syria, the statement said.
"These designations seek to deny Alkhald and Al Iraqi the resources they need to plan and carry out further terrorist attacks. Among other consequences, all of Alkhald's and Al Iraqi's properties and interests that are subject to US jurisdiction are blocked, which means that American citizens are prohibited from engaging in any transactions with them," the State Department affirmed.
