Al-Sisi forms nat'l council for countering terror, extremism

CAIRO, July 26 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfatah Al-Sisi has issued a presidential decree forming a national council for combating terror and extremism.
As per the decree, the council is meant to mobilize government and non-government efforts to address the root causes of terrorism and to set out a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism both at home and abroad.
The council would also be responsible for promoting moderate religious discourse and refuting extremist thoughts.
It aims to improve coordination between the state political and security agencies and the international community, especially neighboring and regional countries.
The council would be headed by the president and its membership includes parliament speaker, prime minister, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, head of the Coptic Church, ministers of defense, interior, foreign affairs, justice, education, endowments and youth and sports as well as a number of public figures.
