Jordan, UAE foreign ministers discuss Al-Aqsa crisis
AMMAN, July 21 (KUNA) -- Jordan and UAE Foreign Ministers called on Friday for the immediate opening of Al-Aqsa Holy Mosque to the worshippers, demanding that Israel should respect the historical and legal statuses of the holy sites in Jerusalem.
In a phone call, the Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al-Safadi discussed with his UAE counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan the exerted efforts to end the tension and regain calmness as well as security at the Holy Mosque, a statement issued by Jordanian foreign Ministry said today.
They urged the international community to immediately end the crisis by pressuring Israel to respect its legal and international commitments, and to end its unilateral measures.
The Israeli authorities closed Al-Aqsa Mosque last Friday and prevented the worshippers from performing their prayers. Israel installed electric doors on its entrances.
Such measures were undertaken by Israel under the pretext of an earlier attack by three Palestinians on Israeli policemen, causing the death of the officers. The Palestinian accused of the attack were killed by Israel.
Jordan is responsible of supervising the Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem according to treaties signed with the Israeli and the Palestinian authorities in 1994 and 2013. (end) ab.lb
