Syria's parliament speaker sacked

AMMAN, July 20 (KUNA) -- The Syrian parliament on Thursday issued a resolution discharging its speaker Hadyiah Abbas, with a majority of votes.
During a session held to discuss the Syrian People's Assembly (PA) internal regulation, Abbas prevented some lawmakers from submitting their interpellations, according to a statement published by the state news agency (SANA).
She turned a blind eye to MPs' willingness to discuss a number of articles according to the constitutional rules, then she suddenly announced the end of discussions, it added.
The statement added that some members opposed the move, describing Abbas' behavior as "irresponsible and illegal." As a result, 164 MPs submitted request to discharge Abbas from her post as a speaker. Under the internal regulation, deputy of speaker becomes responsible for the parliament until a new chief is elected.
