GENEVA, July 9 (KUNA) -- Russia and United States reached a ceasefire agreement in southwest Syria, while the United Nations will hold tomorrow the seventh round of intra-Syrian negotiations.
The difference in both nations' positions towards the use of internationally illegal chemical weapons by the Syrian regime is still the main dispute that might undermine efforts of ending the crisis.
The US warned Syrian regime would pay a high price in case it uses chemical weapons against the Syrian people again.
Washington would react vigorously and in a tougher manner compared to raiding Shuairat military airport in Homs countryside, following the Syrian regime chemical attack on April 4 on Khan Sheikhoun village in Idlib countryside.
UK and France are backing the US on its rhetoric, as they claimed possessing intelligence of a new chemical attack, without disclosing further information.
On July 6, US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson accused Moscow of not preventing the Syrian regime from using chemical weapons.
Meanwhile Donald Trump criticized former US President Barack Obama of acting negativly towards the Syrian crisis.
On the other hand, Moscow is uncomfortable towards Washington's deployment of air and land forces in the Iraq-Syria-Jordan border triangle, in justification of fighting the so-called Islamic State (IS) militants.
In addition, the Washington and its allies are doubting intentions of Damascus and Moscow in fighting IS in case (Bashar) Al-Assad forces prevented the US-supported Syrian forces of reaching IS strongholds in Deir Az Zor. (end) ta.lb
