Today in Kuwait's history

KUWAIT, July 1 (KUNA) -- 1948 -- First issue of the monthly Kathma magazine was published, the first to be published in Kuwait.
1961 -- The Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah agreed to resort to the Kuwaiti-British agreement, stipulating that London would support Kuwait in face of external aggression, upon request. This came after reports of suspicious Iraqi military movements. British soldiers were then stationed on the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border.
1974 -- Decree-law number 15/74 was issued to establish the Public Authority for Housing Care.
1979 -- Civil services Law implemented. The Civil Services Commission (CSC) was tasked to carry out this mission to improve administrative work and productivity in Kuwait.
1985 -- Kuwait opened an embassy in Prague.
1995 -- Decree 26/1995 was issued allowing the establishment of a free trade zone in Kuwait.
1999 -- Health Ministry issued list of fees for healthcare services at hospitals and health centers.
2001 -- Law number 44/2001 was issued over Kuwait's ratification of the joint GCC Defense Treaty.
2006 -- Amiri decree 191/2006 was issued to establish the national security academy at the Ministry of Interior, a step aimed at developing leadership in this vital security body.
2006 -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah submitted the cabinet's resignation after the results of the 11th National Assembly elections were announced.
2007 -- Amiri decree 42/2007 was issued to establish a KD 100,000 million portfolio to help fund and develop the industrial sector in Kuwait for the upcoming 20 years.
2009 -- National Assembly renewed trust in Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah after 30 MPs voted against the motion of no confidence while 16 MPs voted in favor and two abstained.
2009 -- Kuwait Sports Club won first-ever national hockey league tournament, beating Qadsiya by 4-2 goals. (end) gta
