White House's Syria warning "should be heard" - UNSG says

WASHINGTON, June 28 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres told reporters Wednesday the White House's warning about an impending chemical attack by the Syrian regime "should be heard." Guterres made the remark before meeting with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson at the State Department, in response to a question on whether Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad would heed the warning.
"I believe it was a serious warning, and I think serious warnings should be heard," the Secretary General said.
The White House issued the statement late Monday, saying it "has identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children." The plans are said to resemble those that took place prior to the April attack on Khan Sheikhoun. (end) ys.ibi
