KUWAIT, June 26 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- Kuwait joins the Arab Postal Union.
1961 -- Iraqi Foreign Ministry, in a memo addressed to Arab embassies, claimed, "Kuwait is part of Iraq, a reality that has been endorsed by history and colonial powers will not be able to erase this fact," affirming Baghdad's criminal schemes against the Gulf country.
1961 -- Kuwaiti people stage mass demonstrations protesting remarks by the Iraqi ruler, Abdulkarim Qassem, demanding merger of Kuwait. The chief of police and public security, Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, issues a statement praising the Kuwaiti people for expressing their faithfulness to the Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. He urges citizens to resume their regular works after the demonstrations.
1961 -- Saudi King Saud Bin Abdulaziz dispatches military forces to Kuwait, in line with the 1948 joint defense treaty, to help in defending the country after the ruling regime in Iraq massed up troops along the border and demanded integration of Kuwait.
2000 -- The National Assembly (parliament) passes a draft law authorizing establishment of private universities, stipulating gender separation, abidance by Islamic and moralistic values.
2000 -- The National Assembly passes a bill resolving state-owned property claims.
2004 -- A gas turbine power plant was opened in south Kuwait with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts.
2005 -- Law No 30 for 2005 as for social security was put into effect.
2007 -- Kuwaiti media figure Yaqoub Al-Rasheed dies at 79. He was a prominent personality in the press, literature and diplomacy. He had served in Kuwait Radio, daily newspapers and composed literary works.
2010 -- Athlete Fawzi Dahash wins the 110m hurdles race at an international athletics competition, held in Bulgaria.
2011 -- Kuwait Oil Company wins the international safety award.
2011 -- Abdulwahab Al-Issa wins the national jet ski championship.
2014 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signs a loan agreement worth KD 8.5 million with Tunisia and another one, worth KD six million, with the Lebanese government to finance a water project.
2014 -- Kuwait Petroleum International wins the golden award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) in the realm of health, safety and environment. 

KUWAIT -- 2015 -- Twenty-five citizens had fallen as martyrs and 202 others suffered injuries in a terrorist blast at Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque in Al-Sawaber district in the heart of Kuwait Capital.
His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah hurriedly arrived at the scene, expressing his deep distress as he checked on the wounded, with the epic remark, "These are my sons." 2015 -- Abdulaziz Al-Adsani, Chairman of the Audit Bureau and one of Kuwait's eminent personalities, passed away. He was 84.
2016 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad hosted the UN chief Ban Ki-moon during a visit to the country.
2016 -- Tareq Rajab, a Kuwaiti pioneer intellectual personality, passed away. He was 80. Rajab was a leading figure in heritage, arts, science and literature's realms and director of the relics and museums. (end) rk
