RABAT, June 22 (KUNA) -- The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) on Thursday condemned the destruction of Al-Nuri Mosque and Al-Hadba minaret, west of Mosul.
The destruction of the Mosque, which was built by Nour El Deen Mahmoud Zenki in 1173, is a terrible crime committed by criminals who do not evaluate the value of monuments and sacredness of the places of worship, ISESCO said in a statement.
It called for protecting the historical monuments in Iraq that have been facing demolition for three years due to the armed conflicts and terrorism, the statement added.
The joint operations command in Iraq announced Wednesday night that the so-called Islamic State militants blew up the Mosque and Al-Hadba minaret. (end)
