NEW DELHI, June 22 (KUNA) -- At least three members of Pakistan-based militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba were killed on Thursday, following an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir in North India, police sources said.
Quoting local police officials, the Press Trust of India said that security forces launched a search and cordon operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of three local youths who joined the banned organization in a house in densely populated Kakapora area of Pulwama district.
In the ensuing encounter, all three militants were gunned down.
Last Friday, the Lashkar-e-Taiba militants had killed six Indian policemen in Anantnag district following a revenge attack on the killing of local commander Junaid Mattoo and two of his companions in a gunfight in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Indian forces had killed yesterday two militants in an encounter in Sopore township of Baramulla district. New Delhi accuses Islamabad of supporting and funding the armed groups in Kashmir, claims that Islamabad denies and insists Kashmir people are defending their freedom. (end) atk.ag
