Iran arrests 41 persons with suspected affiliations with "Islamic State"

TEHRAN, June 9 (KUNA) -- Iranian security authorities have arrested 41 persons suspected of having links with the so-called Islamic State (IS) in several provinces.
Iranian Security Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the suspects were detained in Kermanshah, Iran's Kurdistan, West Azerbaijan and Tehran.
Locals in these provinces cooperated with the authorities for arresting the suspects, the statement said, adding that "special equipment and documents" were found in possession of the detainees "with the intention to carry out other terrorist attacks." Gunmen believed to be members of the IS movement, on Wednesday, attacked the Iranian parliament headquarters and mausoleum of founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Khomeini, killing 17 people and wounding 50 others.
The so-called Islamic State released a statement acknowledging it was responsible for the rare attack in the heart of the Iranian capital. (end) fz.rk
