Al-Sisi: Egypt keen on stronger ties with Russia

CAIRO, May 29 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdul-Fattah Al-Sisi has said that Egypt is eager to promote ties with Russia in all fields.
Al-Sisi received in Cairo on Monday the Russian Minister of Defense Sergey Shoygu and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
The president commended the strategic dialogue between Cairo and Moscow (2+2), which offers a key channel for bilateral consultations on issues of common concern, presidential spokesman Alaa Yusuf said in a statement.
The challenges facing the Middle East prompt intensifying cooperation to overcome them and restore stability to the region, Al-Sisi said.
The two ministers appreciated the fruitful cooperation between the two countries over the past years for the good of both sides, the spokesman said.
They said that Russia is willing to promote the legal framework of the bilateral strategic cooperation as well as developing the 2009 agreement.
Today's meeting reviewed a host of topics on bilateral cooperation, as the president reaffirmed Egypt's keenness on consolidating the partnership with Russia in economy, trade and industry.
The two sides addressed regional and international developments of common concern, especially in Syria and Libya. They reiterated the need for political solutions to crises in both states. The Egyptian-Russian talks kicked off today within the 2+2 dialogue involving the two countries' foreign and defense ministries.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri and Russian counterpart held a wide-scale consultation session today.
Previously, Cairo and Moscow held two session of the 2+2 talks, Cairo 2013, and Moscow 2014. (end) asm.msa
