Japan, US agree to pressure Pyongyang over recent missile test

TOKYO, May 29 (KUNA) -- Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson agreed to work together to put more pressure on North Korea following its fresh ballistic missile test on Monday.
"We shared the view that North Korea's repeated provocations, including a ballistic missile launch today, simply cannot be tolerated," Kishida told reporters after his telephone conversation with Tillerson. Their talks came after North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile earlier in the day that flew about 400 km and fell into waters within the Japanese exclusive economic zone.
"We also confirmed close cooperation in intensifying pressure on North Korea based on the results from the recent meeting of the Group of Seven leaders and the Japan-US summit talks," said Kishida.
The two ministers also reaffirmed the importance of the trilateral coordination between Japan, the US and South Korea and agreed to urge China and Russia to play bigger roles in the issues, he added. (end) mk.gta
