CAIRO, May 22 (KUNA) - Containing the hard humanitarian conditions in some Arab countries has been the focus of talks held in Cairo between the Arab League Secretary General Aboul-Gheit and the UN Secretary-General's Humanitarian Envoy for the Middle East and North Africa region, Dr. Ahmed Al Muraikhi.
Aboul-Gheit and Al Muraikhi discussed promoting cooperation between the League's Secretariat and the envoy's office on handling the "deteriorating humanitarian conditions in some Arab countries", in particular those suffering armed conflicts, according to a statement by the League in Cairo on Thursday.
The League's chief appreciated the UN efforts, especially by Al Muraikhi's office, to provide humanitarian aid to the people in the Arab countries afflicted with conflicts or crises, as well as Arab refugees in the neighboring states, the statement said.
He also reviewed the relevant efforts by the League's Secretariat, hoping that the coming period would see further cooperation on the organization and the UN.
On his part, Al Muraikhi rviewed the major elements of the plans, programs and activities the UN is implementing in the region, saying that coordination with the Arab League is crucial in that respect.
He also stressed the need to consider taking "joint executive steps" to halt the deterioration of the humanitarian conditions in some Arab countries, the statement concluded. (end) mfm.rg.msa
