Bahrain: dealing with outlaws in line with legal measures

MANAMA, May 24 (KUNA) -- Bahrain's Interior Ministry said Wednesday that it would combat any gatherings or agitation in accordance with legal measures.
The ministry will proceed with law enforcement and take every steps aiming to maintain security and safety of both citizens and residents.
Bahrain Public Security Chief Major-General Tariq Al-Hassan made the statement at news conference held today.
He said police confronted outlawed individuals who were hiding behind barricades, which led to closures of roads and streets.
Those outlawed individuals tried to attack police officers by axes and some weapons, injuring some of them, he stressed. He added that police has arrested 286 people who face many charges, including prison break, attacks on policemen, attempted murder, joining terrorist groups, possession of explosives and others.
Operations against the outlaws were conducted in line with efforts aiming to maintain security and discipline as well as the law enforcement.
Some 286 people were arrested in Al-Deraz operation, some of whom were wanted in serious crimes, he told reporters.
Al-Hassan noted police asked all the people gathered in Duraz to leave within 48 hours ahead of the operation.
He said "we wanted to conduct operations earlier but the move was postponed until a verdict was announced." He confirmed that it was important to maintain law and order as the place had been attracted fugitives and outlaws. (end) hmd.hm
