Coastguard foils attempt by Iraqis to enter Kuwaiti waters - MoI

KUWAIT, May 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's coastguard on Thursday thwarted an attempt by four Iraqi trespassers on a cruiser to encroach on the country's territorial waters, where they tried to control a patrol, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said on Thursday. Radars of the Kuwaiti navy detected an Iraqi cruiser, that carried four armed men, venturing into Kuwaiti waters as they sought to commandeer a patrol boat at gunpoint, a statement by the MoI noted.
Moreover, security forces apprehended the intruders as a coastguardsman and an Iraqi both sustained "minor injuries", the statement pointed out.
The Kuwaiti navy has stepped up efforts to protect the country's territorial waters agaisnt any threats. (end) yys.nam
