KUWAIT, May 13 (KUNA) -- Zakat House has raised KD 1.205 million (some USD 3.950) through the campaign it launched on Saturday night for the release of Kuwaiti prisoners convicted on financial charges.
The campaign "let them spend Ramadan with us" was launched at Kuwait TV in the presence of Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Minister of Information Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Dr. Faleh Al-Azab, and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri.
Speaking to reporters, Sheikh Mohammad said the Ministry of Information backs all humanitarian and philanthropic initiatives in Kuwait.
"Tonight's campaign, the second of its kind by Zakat House, materializes the humanitarian nature of Kuwait which is known for pioneering role in responding to emergencies and helping needy people around the globe," he pointed out.
Sheikh Mohammad commended the contributions of the private sector and civil society institutions to such initiatives that have great impacts on the society.
On his part, Al-Jabri said the new fundraising campaign translates into action the instructions of the political leadership for alleviating the financial burdens on the citizens.
"The strategy of the Ministry of Awqaf aims to involve the civil society in all activities relating to the enhancement of family stability and social cohesion," the minister pointed out.
Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Azab reaffirmed commitment of the Ministry of Justice to helping the campaign succeed in settling the debts of convicts and ensure the release of the largest possible number of them ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Justice, aims to release of deeply indebted prisoners after revision of their respective files to make sure of their eligibility to settlement of their debts and thereby early release. (pickup previous) amn.fs.gb
