Air strikes kill 4 security personnel, 12 militants in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, April 30 (KUNA) -- At least four security personnel and 12 militants of the so-called Islamic State (IS) were killed in separate air strikes by Afghan security forces in different parts of Afghanistan, said officials on Sunday.
At least two Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel were killed and nine others wounded during an airstrike in central Kapisa province of Afghanistan. Provincial governor spokesman, Qais Qaderi told media that the predawn incident took place in the Ahmadzai area of Tagab district in which two ALP policemen were killed and nine others wounded.
Afghan Special Forces conducted the airstrike targeting militant hideouts, but a nearby ALP check-post was mistakenly pounded, he confirmed. He said the injured were evacuated to nearby hospital.
In another incident in Afghanistan's central Uruzgan province, two Afghan security personnel were killed during an airstrike in Kotwali area in the limits of Tarinkot, the provincial capital.
Afghan media quoted a security official saying that at least two Afghan soldiers were killed and two others wounded when the Afghan Air Force conducted the airstrike, mistakenly targeting the quick reaction force personnel.
A doctor at the Uruzgan Civil Hospital, Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman confirmed that four injured soldiers were shifted to the hospital where two of them succumbed to their wounds.
Moreover, 12 IS militants were killed during an ongoing air-and-ground offensive in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, the military said on Sunday.
A statement by the Selab Military Corps in the eastern zone said that 12 IS militants were killed during the operation codenamed "Hamza" by security forces in various districts of Nangarhar. It further said that one machinegun was destroyed during the airstrikes. Security personnel and civilians suffered no casualties, it added. (end) sbk.mt
