KUWAIT, April 30 (KUNA) -- 1924 -- Al-Adab (literature) club was established by a number of Kuwaiti intellects keen on shedding light on the world of culture and arts.
1970 -- Official Kuwaiti population reached 345,898 people.
1980 -- The International development of capital markets conference began in Kuwait and GCC countries. The first Zakat conference in Kuwait also kicked started.
1994 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued Amiri decree number 52 approving the inception of Kuwait National Library.
1998 -- The demise of late Hamad Abdulmehsin Alآ­Meshari, 92, one of Kuwait's national figures.
1999 -- Kuwait ranked number one in the world of Fencing for the Disabled, specifically in the Epee Fencing.
2002 -- Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs approved decision of establishing Alآ­Orwah Alآ­Wethqa charity organization.
2003 -- International Federation of Red Cross elected Kuwait for hosting a permanent regional office for the federation.
2005 -- His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Alآ­Ahmad Alآ­Jaber Alآ­Sabah inaugurated the opening of a new building for the Public Institution for Social Security (PIFSS).
2007 -- Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in the country for a two-day official visit, the first ever for a Japanese high-level figure.
2007 -- Oil Minister Sheikh Ali Alآ­Jarrah Alآ­Sabah announced a discovery by Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) of a new and important oil and natural gas field in Alآ­Thabi field, south of Alآ­Rowdatain field.
2008 -- US nonآ­government Freedom House Organization ranked Kuwait's press freedom for the year as the top in the Arab world.
2010 -- Kuwait donated USD one million for Senegal.
2012 -- Municipal Council submitted a proposed blueprint for a free-trade zone south of the country.
2012 -- Kuwait officially received the Bnaider tanker from a South Korea company.
2012 -- Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) said that security staff onboard of the oil-tanker Al-Riqqa foiled an attempt by pirates to take over the vessel while traversing the Hormuz Strait. (end) tg
