CAIRO, April 28 (KUNA) -- Egypt's President Abdulfatah Al-Sisi said Friday that countering terrorism needs cooperation amongst international community, stressing the necessity of drying up sources of financing for terrorism.
In a speech before a dialogue session in the presence of Pope Francis, Al-Sisi said Egypt is standing in the frontlines of the fight against "terrorism evil." Defeating terrorism requires a comprehensive strategy including not only military solutions, but also political, developmental and intellectual ones, he said.
He lauded Pope's stances supporting the activation of dialogue with Egyptian institutions after some years of suspension.
Relaunching dialogue between the Catholic Church and Al-Azhar is a historic step, which will have an influential effect in backing common efforts to renew religious discourse for overcoming major challenges in the Middle East region and the world, he said.
Beside its great cultural status and key role in disseminating the correct image of Islam, Al-Azhar also has an indispensable role in combating extremism and ideas of terror groups, Al-Sisi stressed. (pickup previous) asm.gb
