Erdogan lashes out at world order, influential powers' domination

ISTANBUL, April 28 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday severely criticized the UN Security Council and the European Union (EU) which have fallen "victims to short-term interests and calculations of some influential countries." The world order has lost effectiveness toward some issues that "impact us directly" topped with crises in the region, Erdogan told the 8th Atlantic Council Istanbul Summit.
The mechanisms established to develop solutions have themselves been producing more trouble since they could not respond to the need for change, he added.
On Syria, he said that the crimes of the Syrian regime offer a striking example of "state terrorism." Those who claim they are against terrorism, have to stand against the acts committed by the Syrian regime, he noted.
Inaction toward the "ethnic cleansing" crimes of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and its Syrian wing BYD in the region, in their fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS), prompts more crimes against humanity, Erdogan said.
The president demanded "our friends" to depend on Turkey's knowledge of the BKK and the BYD, otherwise they will be taking steps toward the future on wrong information, as "cultures are collapsing and people are exposed to death." Turkey will never allow a "terrorist belt" to be established on its southern borders, and it is natural for Ankara to use its rights in line with the international law, the president said.
