Tusk: UK must honour all its financial obligations

BRUSSELS, April 28 (KUNA) -- The President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, stressed Friday that they will not discuss the EU's future relations with the UK until sufficient progress has been achieved on the main issues relating to the UK's withdrawal from the EU.
"In other words, before discussing our future, we must first sort out our past. We need to secure the best guarantees for our citizens and their families," he said in his invitation letter to the 27 EU leaders for the special summit to discuss the guideline for negotiations on Brexit in Brussels tomorrow, Saturday. "We should also agree with the UK that all financial obligations undertaken by the EU of 28 will be honoured also by the UK," he stressed m adding "we should aim to avoid a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland." "It is clear that progress on people, money and Ireland must come first. And we have to be ready to defend this logic during the upcoming negotiations," added Tusk. (end) nk.gta
